#blogbookaday: Adrian Simcox Does Not Have a Horse

Summary:  “Adrian Simcox tells anyone who will listen that he has a horse–the best and most beautiful horse anywhere.

But Chloe does NOT believe him. Adrian Simcox lives in a tiny house. Where would he keep a horse? He has holes in his shoes. How would he pay for a horse?

The more Adrian talks about his horse, the angrier Chloe gets. But when she calls him out at school and even complains about him to her mom, Chloe doesn’t get the vindication she craves. She gets something far more important.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: Adrian Simcox believes wholeheartedly that he has a beautiful horse and tells all the kids at school about her big, brown eyes. Chloe knows that Adrian couldn’t possibly have a horse – they’re too big, too expensive and she knows he’s lying. But, her mom helps her to see the situation differently.

Personal Reaction: I really loved this story and how sure this little girl was of the truth, only to find out that maybe, in some cases, the truth isn’t as important as being understanding and kind. I really liked the way Adrian stood by his creativity and imagination, even when it wasn’t the popular thing to do. The ink, colored pencil and watercolor lends beautiful movement to the story to inspire creativity and you can see Adrian’s horse throughout the book if you look closely enough.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
