#blogbookaday: A Chip Off the Old Block

A Chip Off the Old Block.jpgSummary:  “A plucky pebble shows true grit as he travels the country trying to find out if he fits in with any of his famous rock-formation relatives.
Rocky comes from a long line of rock stars! Uncle Gibraltar, Aunt Etna, and Great-Grandma Half Dome are just some of the legendary rock formations he calls family. It’s no wonder he wants to matter in a big way too–but it’s not easy trying to get a foothold. Rocky gets tossed by The Wave and driven away at Devil’s Tower–but he’s determined not to allow these pitfalls to chip away at his confidence. Rather than feeling crushed, he keeps on rolling, hoping to become the rock-star he knows he’s meant to be.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: A small rock is part of a BIG family of rock stars and he wants to make a difference too, but his parents just think of him as a chip off the old block. Filled with great rock puns and wordplay, this story of persistence shows that it doesn’t matter how big you are, everyone can make a difference and be a rock star!

Personal Reaction: I love a good pun (and a good dad joke) so this book’s right up my alley! I loved the way little rock wasn’t going to take no for an answer and traveled across the U.S. visiting family (aka amazing rock formations) to figure out where he fits in! This story will resonate with kids who may want to make a different, but aren’t quite sure where to get started, plus with some great rock facts at the end of the story, budding geologists are sure to share fun facts and might want to do a little more research!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
