#blogbookaday: The Big Monster Snorey Book

The Big Monstery Snorey Book.jpgSummary:  “The sleeping monsters are making an awful lot of noise ā€” snoring and grumbling, tapping and chattering. After such a long sleep, what happens if they wake up feeling hungry? Any little monsters around better watch out! With masses of monsters to spot and an awesome onomatopoeic text, children will ask for this hilarious, inventive book over and over again. While the text introduces readers to a cast of curious characters, including knobbly-kneed Norris, Flora the fussy fidget, and snotty Stanley, the illustrations suggest that something pretty monstrous might be going on. But sometimes the smallest monsters of all are the ones to watch out for!” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: A little monster’s problem solving comes in handy as he introduces the reader to a number of alliterative and onomatopoeic monsters – all of whom are sound asleep and snoring! When the monsters finally do wake up the little monster is ready for bed and has a plan so he won’t get eaten! The bright drawings and onomatopoeia words on the page add for a a really fun read.

Personal Reaction: I thought this story was really cute – the monsters are brightly colored with lots of patterns and use of imagination and the littlest monster is not only sneaky, but smart too! For really little ones, you might need to help explain what is actually happening, but I think older kids would definitely understand this story and giggle at the ending. This would be a fun story to share around Halloween, if you’re looking for a monstrous-ly good time!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
