Almost Super

18090043Almost Super was such a fun read!  Marion Jensen did a great job of creating the very realistic Bailey family – with some amazing super powers, that is, except for Rafter and his brother Benny.  The Bailey family has been saving the world from the super villains, The Johnsons (you always shake your fist when you say the Johnson name) for as long as anyone can remember.  But, Rafter and Benny realize that something more’s afoot when they befriend Juanita Johnson whose part of the super villain family with no desire to live the “super” life.

This was a very quick read with lots of laugh out loud moments that will definitely be a hit for older elementary school students in grades 4 – 6, especially those who may be a little more reluctant to pick up a chapter book.  I think my favorite part was the chapter titles – direct quotes pulled from the chapter, they were some of the funniest lines in the book.  I don’t want to ruin any of the fun, so you’ll have to read if for yourself!

Marion Jensen is a debut author, so there’s not a lot of information available on his website specifically about his book, but you can check it out!  The best part is finding out that he’s already working on Almost Super 2!
