Outer Space Story Time

I’ve had so many things to post in the past couple weeks, I’ve neglected to start posting my story time agendas for the summer.

I am in charge of toddler story time, which means for children ages 2 – 3 1/2 at our library.  I usually have around 25 kids, their parents/caretakers, and the occasional big brother/sister or baby.  I like to think that story time is an exercise in controlled chaos.

This week we’re focusing on outer space to coincide with the summer reading program a little.

We read The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers, Space Race by Judith Bauer Stamper, and Joey and Jet in Space by James Yee.  My favorite story this week was The Way Back Home which is about a boy who goes for a ride in an airplane and crashes on the moon.  There he meets a martian who has also crashed and together they help each other to get back home.

We also listened to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (which seemed fitting for an outer space story time) and we learned the sign language words for stars and moon.  I’ll be posting more story time ideas throughout the summer!
