Wake

Wake written by Lisa McMann is the first book in the Wake trilogy.  A quick read, the book sucks you right from the beginning.  Janie, a 17-year old, gets sucked into other people’s dreams, which makes life truly difficult when you’re still in high school with peers sleeping through class, study hall, and lunch.  Janie has kept this secret to herself, until she becomes a participant is a truly terrifying nightmare.

This book is really popular among the teens in my community right now and I have to say the concept is really great.  It reminds me slightly of the book Gossamer by Lois Lowry with the idea that dreams can be affected from outside sources.  Unfortunately, I felt that the book was extremely rushed and that the characters emotions quickly moved from one end of the spectrum to the other without too much to sway them in either direction.  That being said, I’ll still probably read the other two books in the trilogy, Fade and Gone to see how the trilogy ends.
