Storytime Theme: Rainbow of Animals
Most animal storytimes are quite easy to plan – there are literally thousands of animal picture books available to choose from! So, rather than focusing on a specific animal or habitat, I thought I’d try something different. Today’s storytime lesson plan is a rainbow of animals which means I”m highlighting a few different animals each with a different color. I thought it would be fun to highlight how many colors can be found in nature and maybe even get a chance to talk about why some of these animals are these specific colors.
Did you know that flamingos are pink because of the shrimp they eat? What a cool fact of nature!
You can easily focus on one color at a time and highlight a number of animals of each color. Or pick a select few animals and colors to share during one storytime. I love the idea of creating a fiction and nonfiction storytime based on each color and sharing animal books for each color. Regardless of how you create your storytime, I hope you find some great ideas in the books, songs, and crafts below!
