Storytime Theme: Archaeology

For those using CSLP’s Summer Reading theme – “Unearth a Story” take a look at the lesson plan below for an introduction into archaeology for young people. Archaeology was a difficult lesson plan for toddlers, and I think it works better for a preschool or maybe even a little older audience in elementary school. It was also difficult to find enough archaeology picture books for kids – there just aren’t that many of them out there! So, I added a couple of picture books to support the theme about Vikings, mummies, and Ancient Egypt.

So, take a deeper look into history with these STEM nonfiction and fiction titles that work perfectly for the 2026 summer reading theme (or anytime you want to dig deep into history!).
