Storytime Theme: Fossils

My library is following the Collaborative Summer Reading Program theme this year which is “Unearth a Story” and we are leaning heavily into all things dinosaurs and fossils! We’ve got blow-up dino costumes, a bouncy dino that you can sit on, and we created our own summer reading t-shirts with a dino holding a stack of books!

Today’s storytime lesson plan is all about fossils, focusing mainly on dinosaurs, but some other prehistoric animals and plants too! Some of these books are a little longer than I would typically use for toddlers or preschoolers. I would suggest taking a few pages to highlight, skipping a few pages, or just browsing through the books with your group instead of reading them cover to cover. I don’t mind this as an option because I think it shows parents and caregivers that reading doesn’t always have to look the same every time you sit down. Take a look and explore the titles below to find a few that might fit your own lesson plan this summer!
