Storytime Theme: Pi Day

Somehow, in the midst of writing up lesson plans all lat year for holidays, I somehow missed this nerdy, math-focused (and delicious!) holiday – Pi Day! Create a super, simple STEM storytime lesson plan with some fun picture book read alouds, a few songs, and a craft too. It doesn’t even have to be very mathematical at all! I really like how The Loudest Librarian was able to explain it in her post – create a circle and then use a piece of string and measure it around the perimeter, then tape it as the diameter three times with a little extra tail!

Today, I thought it made a lot of sense to share some books about pie, circles, and things that are round. It would, of course, be really fun to share a real pie for a treat, if that’s something you’re able to do at your library. And let me give you one of the tastiest pie recipes ever (plus, it’s as simple as chocolate chip cookies!) – Nestle Tollhouse Pie. It’s basically like a chocolate chip cookie in a pie crust and would be pretty popular among the preschool crowd, I’m sure.
