Storytime Theme: Days of the Week

I hadn’t realized (until I had basically written up this entire lesson plan) that I had created a Days of the Week storytime lesson plan just a few years ago. But, alas, here we are and I found a few new titles, songs, and activities to do! I think this is a really fun and useful storytime lesson plan, especially with preschool age kids who are learning these concepts in school or daycare. Or maybe, you’re child loves to learn or has a schedule that you can learn together and these books would make a great starting point to learn a new concept.

I think one of the best ways to learn the days of the week is discuss some sort of a schedule or an upcoming event and to teach kids about time in terms of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. That way, they aren’t getting overwhelmed by flipping to another month or something happening a long time from now. It’s much easier to say, “We’re going to visit Grandma and Grandpa on Wednesday.” or, “We got to stortyime on Mondays.” These concrete examples can help kids learn about the days of the week!
