Storytime Theme: Quiet
Well, last week I promised there would be an opposite storytime to the Loud theme that I posted and I didn’t want to forget, so here we go – Storytime Theme: Quiet is here! It was surprisingly much harder to find “quiet” picture books. There are dozens of books about being loud, but far fewer about the idea of quiet, especially geared toward really young kids. I think that’s most likely due to the fact that little ones have such a short attention span, we need to engage with them quickly to catch their attention and hold it as long as possible. Quiet books may not necessarily engage children in the same way a “loud” book does.
That being said, kids need to understand what to do when it’s quiet – when they aren’t occupied by scheduled activities, screen time and competing interests. Teaching kids that boredom is okay is an important part of growing up and this storytime provides the perfect introduction to the power of quiet.
