Storytime Theme: Polar Friends
While it’s simple to create a lesson plan all about polar bears or penguins, I thought it might be fun to create a lesson plan that brings them together with other animals that live in the same habitats. And while you’ll never see a polar bear and a penguin living together in the wild, they get along well in this storytime about polar friends.
If you have access to a globe, you can actually show the kids how far away they live from one another (and maybe point out where you live too!) creating a mini-geography lesson in storytime. I’d also encourage you to use some nonfiction in this storytime to talk about how animals have adapted to living in very cold environments. This storytime has a lot of potential to be used in a variety of ways, but remember to make sure that you’re excited by it, because kids will pick up on your emotions and play off of them!
