Storytime Theme: Inventions

This was a little trickier of a storytime lesson plan, but I think it’s worth it! Teaching kids about inventing things encourages creativity, imagination, deduction and reasoning and so much more. Plus, it teaches kids that sometimes failing at something the first or (hundredth) time you try something is okay. Perseverance is an important skill that kids need to learn over and over again.

This storytime probably can lean towards a little bit of an older audience because the books tend to be a bit longer. But, you could probably get away with reading fewer books or skipping pages if necessary as well. Encouraging kids to get creative if you have time for an activity is awesome – building with blocks helps kids’ coordination and spatial awareness, using different building materials to create an open-ended project builds creativity. I think, this was a surprising, yet very exciting lesson plan! Let me know if you try it at your library, school, or at home!
