Storytime Theme: Pi Day

Somehow, in the midst of writing up lesson plans all lat year for holidays, I somehow missed this nerdy, math-focused (and delicious!) holiday – Pi Day! Create a super, simple STEM storytime lesson plan with some fun picture book read alouds, a few songs, and a craft too. It doesn’t even have to be very mathematical at all! I really like how The Loudest Librarian was able to explain it in her post – create a circle and then use a piece of string and measure it around the perimeter, then tape it as the diameter three times with a little extra tail!

Today, I thought it made a lot of sense to share some books about pie, circles, and things that are round. And if you’re looking for even more great circle stories, check out my Circles storytime lesson plan for more ideas! It would, of course, be really fun to share a real pie for a treat, if that’s something you’re able to do at your library. And let me give you one of the tastiest pie recipes ever (plus, it’s as simple as chocolate chip cookies!) – Nestle Tollhouse Pie. It’s basically like a chocolate chip cookie in a pie crust and would be pretty popular among the preschool crowd, I’m sure.
