Storytime Theme: Earth Day

It’s time to celebrate this beautiful planet we live on with an Earth Day storytime lesson plan! This lesson plan includes nine (recently) published picture books that make great read alouds. One of which is a nonfiction title. Remember, you are never required to read an entire book cover-to-cover. Sometimes, it’s just as effective to take a few parts from a book to learn about something! I’ve also included three songs that would work great for an Earth Day storytime. And of course, for those who include a craft, I’ve shared three different crafts at varying levels of difficulty that you can adapt to your program.

If you typically don’t include a craft, why not make this storytime a special program and try offering a craft or even different “centers” where kids can explore more about the planet. Create a book center with more titles, a craft or two, and maybe you can find a gross motor activity for kids who love to move too!
