Storytime Theme: Singalong (2025 Update)

If you’re ever in a rut or have a group of kids at storytime that are just a little more wild than usual, try an (almost) fully singing storytime. I’ll be the first to admit, I can’t carry a tune and I don’t just say that. My partner is a wonderful musician and he can’t seem to understand how I can’t sing well! But, when you’re singing with littles, it doesn’t matter. For whatever reason, singing a picture book, rather than reading it gathers all their attention in a way reading it never could! They will hang on your every word note!

Singing is actually a really great early literacy tool as well. Singing helps to break down words into smaller parts to teach kids those sound bites. It’s also great for helping teach kids about rhythm and rhyme as well as gross motor skills and movement. Overall, it’s a win-win and you’ve definitely got to try it! This is a massively needed update from past storytimes in 2014 and 2016 with brand new books, some new songs, and a couple of process art activities to share!
