Storytime Theme: Building
It’s time for a STEM storytime and I love that building can be included in the STEM field (think engineering) because kids of all ages love to build and this storytime celebrates the fun of building (and throws in some learning too)! Building helps kids with hand-eye coordination and fine and gross motor skills, but it also helps kid with problem solving skills, spatial awareness and basic math and science concepts. That’s right, building with blocks has math and science benefits! Measurements, shapes and sizes are all important aspects of understanding blocks and how to build with them. What about simple science concepts like gravity and balance? Or testing a hypothesis through cause and effect, “If I place this block here, will my tower stay standing?”
So, here’s all the information you need to try out a STEM storytime all about building. You could even incorporate The Three Little Pigs into a program like this. It’s a great way to switch up a storytime to focus more on STEM concepts in a very easy way! Have fun building!
