Storytime Theme: I Can Do It!

Teaching kids perseverance is an important tool for the future as giving up when something is hard is no way to go through life. Teaching kids a growth mindset or to have a “bubble gum” brain is so important and it’s something that can be started early. Seeing characters struggle with a project or overcoming a fear in books can help kids apply these same concepts in real life.

The crafts I chose for this lesson plan are process-based rather than product-based, meaning that the focus in on the creation rather than on the final product that must look just like a sample. This idea of creating for creating’s sake is also a valuable idea. It can help kids learn about how to handle mistakes or to try new things. Share this storytime with kids early and often to teach kids that imagination, creativity, and a growth mindset are important parts of growing up!
