Storytime Theme: Movement

Have you ever had one of those storytimes where the kids have the zoomies and no matter what you do, they’re just not going to settle down? Well, instead of trying to fight against it, why not try embracing movement during storytime. If you’re looking for something completely different for the preschool age group, you’ve got to try a music and movement program, and you can check out this lesson plan to get you started! Now, that program doesn’t include any books being read aloud, but it’s a lot of fun and very much appreciated by caregivers who are looking to tire their kids out a bit!

But, if you’re not quite ready to jump into a brand new program, that’s okay too! Why not try a storytime theme based on movement? This is a perfect way to bridge between storytime and full movement program by encouraging kids to move even more than usual during the stories. And of course, include some really amazing songs in your storytime as well! I think that these books create the best mix of listening and participating, but of course, find the books that best serve your community!
